How to Recall Your Elected Officials

The San Angelo City Council members were elected to represent the will and interests of the residents of San Angelo. They are not listening to the voice of the people regarding data centers. There has been an increase in comments on social media posts asking how to recall the city council members. Recalling an elected official is the right of the citizens. That process should be accessible. Here's the process:
1. Plan to submit an affidavit in person to the San Angelo Clerk. You can find your city council representative here.

3. Get your affidavit notarized.
4. Deliver your affidavit to the City Clerk.
5. After filing your affidavit with the City Clerk, she will prepare signatory pages for you and explain the rules for signature collection. It is important to note:
  • The petition must be signed in front of the person collecting signatures so that person can get it notarized. People can’t just pass the petition around.
  • The petition sheets are numbered and cannot be copied. If you need more, you have to go back to the City Clerk.
  • Signature collectors must get each signee's name, signature, voter identification number, date of birth, residence address and the date of signing.
6. You will need to collect signatures from a percentage of the councilman's district voters within a certain timeframe specified by the city charter and communicated by the Clerk.
7. Return the signature pages to the Clerk within the appropriate timeframe.
