Subject: No County Data Centers
Hello, my name is [insert your name] and I’m a resident of Tom Green County, [Enter your Precinct Here].
I’m writing to you, as our Commissioners, to protect San Angelo and the surrounding communities in Tom Green County by insisting on data center regulations.
As you may have seen in the news recently, Beacon Data Centers wants to explore a potential project for an AI Data Center in the Dove Creek area. Data Centers affect all of us. They promise jobs, but those jobs are really on the construction side (which drives local prices up, limits housing, limits childcare availability, etc.). The facilities themselves do not provide many jobs. They're notorious for water misuse or pollution (something we don't need in West Texas). They'll drive up utility costs even more than they're already increasing. A study from late March of this year even shows that the data centers can increase temperatures up to 16 degrees - and that temperatures can be warmer up to 6 miles away from them.
Due to the fast-moving nature of this industry with very little federal or state regulation, I urge you to approve a moratorium on green energy projects and data centers for all Tom Green County precincts.
I have read articles and heard stories about this fast-moving industry poisoning water wells close by their buildings, increasing utility bills, and giving people cancer or miscarriages especially when they are located near neighborhoods and small communities caused by their pollution. The public concern regarding data centers is legitimate. Please stop this project and others. There should be no hyper scale data centers in Tom Green County.
Respectfully,
